No time for runners to feel down

The race will be on DStv and you can follow your favourite runner on the Comrades app.

On a chilly Saturday South Coast Striders Comrades Marathon hopefuls got together for a 10km run to finish off their preparations for the big race this Sunday (28th).

All the long runs had been done over the last few months with weekend distances of 20 to 35km or more. The qualifier events were behind them and it was time to take it easy.

Later on they got together for the traditional pasta party where some of the veterans that had over 10 and 20 medals gave advice and spoke about some of their experiences.

South Coast Striders enjoying a recent morning run at St Mike’s are (back, from left) Mawonga Cita, Gert Veldman, Raymond Gaze, Lynn van der Merwe and Deborah Berridge, with Adeline Jacobs, Patrick Khuluse, Nellie Davies, Gamso Mililo, Asanda Mtshiki and Emmanuel Mufamadi in front.

The other members were given a chance to speak as well. Each of the runners received a personalised shirt and they had to give their predicted finishing time.

This year has some very strong novices wanting to get silver medals, while others were happy to give a time of getting to the end with five to 12 minutes to spare.

A total of 30 members are on the starting list and Striders look forward to hearing about the day, which is a down run this year, from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.
