Victory tastes sweet for U20s

It was arguably the team's best performance of the season and a first time ending second in the league.

The Southern KwaZulu-Natal U20s won their final rugby game of the season, beating Durban Collegians 35-22, to finish second on the league log.

The game lived up to expectations, with both teams needing a bonus point win to qualify for the knockouts.

Dillan van der Merwe opened the scoring with two penalties against the wind to take an early lead.

Van der Merwe and Lina Mahlati saw the hosts take the lead out to 20-7 with a try each, before Collegians scored their second try and kicked a penalty to go into the half time break with the score being 20-17.

In the second half, Southern KZN played with the wind and added two more tries, through Rowan Simon and Siyanda Mathenjwa.

Collegians replied with their third try, but Southern KZN added another penalty to win the game by 13 points.

It was arguably the team’s best performance of the season and a first time ending second in the league.

With this bonus point win, they ended second in the Frank Norris A division and gained home ground advantage for the semi-final against Varsity College in the Basil Medway Knockout Cup, to be played at Genesis this Saturday (27th).
