Bluff golfers enjoy hospitality at Scottburgh GC

The monthly medal will be held this Saturday.

We were talking in the club last week about the ‘featherie’ golf ball that was sold for $5000 which got us remembering. Nowadays there’s not much change out of R10 000 for a top of the range driver and not too long ago that was the cost of a top set of irons and woods-putter extra, I suppose that’s how the pros get paid so much.

Once again the Sou’Easter came along to join us on Wednesday for our individual Stableford. Also pitching up were our friends from the Bluff club paying us another visit enjoying our hospitality. They had their own internal competition and joined in ours.

Gary Jones won the day with just 33 points that’s how hard the wind blew. John Mills ran him close second with 32. Time was that these scores were competing for Stone last which was won by visitor Colin Counden. The Bluff boys managed to find the hidden holes thanks to T van Rensburg who also managed to roll in the only 2 club. Thanks for the visit guys and you’re always welcome.

The Friday five pin had a field of 23 players all vying for some weekend ‘spendos’. Leon van Zyl scored 12 points and R200 while A de Wet scored 10 and a blueback. Thanks go to Alex and Pete Morris for their continued support of this Friday afternoon jol.

P&G Construction held its monthly betterball Stableford with our friendly Sou’Easter also making an appearance. There was a three way count out on 38 points for the whisky and wine with Pete Morris and Wayne Simpson getting the nod and whisky over second placed Mick Marriot and Graham Brown who in turn nodded out John Mills and Barry Kisten. ‘TK’ Moodley was nearest the pin on the 5th with Wayne Simpson almost holing out for the 10th, Wayne making his 2 club and Mick Marriot ‘Texas wedging’ one in.

It’s a betterball Stableford on Wednesday and Local Choice Pharmacy will be the hosts for Saturday’s monthly medal. The course will be closed from Sunday afternoon for a few days while the course gets its spring treatment massage.

Flyer’s footnote: Golf perhaps through its very slowness can reach the most extraordinary heights of tenseness and drama.
