Liam’s 38 points wins getaway down south
A combined Stableford will be held this Saturday.
There was no golf on Wednesday as spring treatment meant the course was not ready. To fill in, here’s a couple of stories from this week’s golf scene.
Playing at the home of golf’, St Andrews, Alexander Knoppe shot a 52 – and that was his back nine score! Okay the weather was as bad as it could get with driving rain and howling winds with the seagulls grounded, but as the Scots say, ‘if it’s nae wind and it’s nae rain ,it’s nae gowf’.
Emiliano Grillo playing on the tour would have been in trouble at Scotties. After hitting his tee shot at the par three he slung his club into the long grass. A R10 fine from Uncle Bob especially as his ball landed just 11ft (3 metres) from the flagstick which might have got nearest the pin here.
So onto Scotties on Saturday where Umthunzi Hotel were the sponsors. Overcast and damp conditions were the order of the day which did not affect Liam Parker-Dennison as he shot 38 points to win himself or mom and dad a two-night stay in Umtentwini.
Ian Walker added to last month’s win with a second place and an overnight stay, that’s three nights now. Pete Morris had third place and two bottles of wine for comfort after being counted out for second. Added to this, Pete then was nearest the pin on the 2nd for another bottle of wine with Gerrie Hattingh taking the 5th, Pete Gilliver 10th and Liam also took the 17th, not a bad day out.
Pumba Joubert, Barry Kisten and Liam also rolled in 2 clubs and the hidden holes are on spring break. Prior to prizegiving we were all stood for a moment’s respect on the passing of Thys Swart late last Saturday.
On Wednesday it’s a betterball Stableford and Halfway Toyota will be sponsoring the Combined Stableford on Saturday.
Flyer’s footnote: In golfing parlance the word ‘lie’ can either reflect the position of your ball or the fable entered on your scorecard.
