‘Get Well Fred’ say local golfers

Golfers came from various parts of the coast to support the day.

Fred Beaver is a golfing personality of some note, not just on the South Coast where he has been the pro at the Wild Coast Sun Country Club since the early ’80s, but further afield as well.

Alec McMath (former GM at Wild Coast Sun), Carrel Beaver and Pinky Qadi, who is handling the business side of things for Fred.

The popular, jovial man has been in critical condition in hospital over the past six weeks.

“It has been a soul destroying, incredibly long and dark road for him,” said his wife Carrel. “He is rallying but had another setback on Saturday when the decision was made to amputate his right leg above his knee.”

“This will obviously take time to heal but he has come so far and he is a fighter.”

A number of his friends organised a golf day at Port Edward Country Club in an effort to show support and cheer him up a bit.

The day was festive, with no one going thirsty, and Fred would have expected no less.

“I showed Fred the pictures and he was so very touched,” said Carrel.

On behalf of the family, she thanked everyone, too numerous to mention, for their support during this difficult time.

“To everyone who has sent messages, prayers and support, thank you.”

She also thanked Hibiscus Private Hospital and doctors for the exceptional professional medical care provided.
