Spoekie visits Scottburgh GC in honour of Halloween
An individual Stableford competition takes place on Saturday.
The ladies of Scottburgh Golf Club returned safely from Dundee after a successful Ladies Interclub Tournament. Winning the Bronze division equally with Durban Country Club were Hayley Gilliver and Alex Morris.
Equally successful were Mandy Jones and Linda Hall who came a creditable 15th out of 46 teams also in the Bronze division. Well done ladies – you’re a credit not only to the club, but to the town as well.
It was a combined Stableford for the men last Wednesday. Deane Jooste and TK Moodley placed first with a 10 point win over second placed John Mills and Brian Richards back after a prolonged illness. The winners scoring 73 points over the 63 scored by the runners-up. Wayne Simpson had the only 2 club and Anton Visage with Pine Pienaar picked up the Stone.
It was Halloween weekend and Spoekie our clubhouse ghost was spiriting around and put a damper on the afternoon and all thoughts of our 5 pin were abandoned. He had other thoughts of the party in the clubhouse later in the evening.
It was monthly medal time last Saturday, with sponsor Local Choice Pharmacy. Taking the A division best gross was Barry Kisten with a creditable 79 followed by Bob Hall who had the best nett with 73. In the B division, in-form Deane Jooste scored 83 to win the gross with Mick Marriot taking the nett with 73. The C division was taken by sponsor’s representative Morne van Eck with 33 points followed by Gary Jones with 31.
Winning the medal for October was Deane Jooste with a nett 68. The loaded team of Bob Hall, Deane Jooste, Morne van Eck and Graham Brown easily won the Alliance with 88 points. No 2 clubs and no one found the hidden holes probably somewhere in Margate no doubt. Spoekie was nursing a babalaas no doubt as his dispirited team of John Mills, Barry Kisten and Gary Jones levitated the Stone from it’s plinth.
I read of an idea to curb the high winning Stableford scores last week which comes from individual scores in the low to mid 40s and the high scores in a betterball game. What was mooted was that should an individual or team suffer a blackout then they should record minus 1 for that hole. Interesting but would it catch on, should cause a few comments in the clubhouse.
This Wednesday (2nd) is a betterball Stableford and Saturday (5th) is the popular Umthunzi Hotel individual Stableford. The list for the borehole game is filling up quite nicely and promises to be a great day.
