Red-hot Liverpool edge out Man United on the fairways
The friendly rivalry is alive and kicking.
Pro-Vision Golf and Social Club held their annual Liverpool vs Manchester United supporters golf challenge at Port Shepstone Country Club last Sunday. It was won by Liverpool, on 831 points to United’s 801.
It was the 13th playing of this popular event, with two cancelled during Covid, with United winning seven times, Liverpool now five and one tie. This year the showdown attracted the largest number of players since 2008, with neutral supporters choosing the team of their choice to play for. There was a shotgun start at 07:00, with the fun, rivalry and mind games starting early.
The winner was decided on the top 30 scores from both teams. Top five players from United were Bulelani Ngilande, Morris Moodley, Keegan Mahadev, Ravin Ranjit and Pravesh Govender. For Liverpool they were Roger Eady, Thinus Pretoruis, Leon Govender, Vinesh Naidoo and Ian Stewart.
Liverpool captain Wesley Scholtz said it was an honour for him to be the winning captain. “The team played some awesome golf, especially considering we were up against some good players in the United team.”
United captain, Bupen Prakash, appreciated the opportunity to lead the team and was proud of his charges despite the loss. He couldn’t resist a cheeky dig, after the Reds two shockers in the premier league. “This year we had more players than Liverpool, maybe they’re still stuck in the ‘Forest’ waiting for someone to ‘Leed’ them out?”
