Father edges son in Ray pool battle

The league was very well supported during the year.

The KWV South Coast Pool League drew to an exciting close at Buccaneers recently.

There was plenty of banter for the final, contested between a father captaining Cove 2 (Mike Ray) and son captaining Buccs 1 (Keagan Ray).

Mike’s team comprised Shane Knox, Jack Bennett, Richard Gelderblom and Skye Watt.

Keagan had in his team Neil Osbourn, Grant Gets, Kyle Baxter and Devon Alexander

Enjoying the festivities are the Coyotes (from left) Cebolenkosi Sehalahadi, Ameer ‘Amo’ Modhied, Blake Statt and Xavier Cupido.

What a showdown, with some quality pool played.

In the end it was the experience of age that overcome the enthusiasm of youth, with Cove 2 clinching a memorable win, 8-7.

The doubles champions for the season were Kyle Baxter and Grant Gets, with Chris and Ros Diedrieks in second place.

Finishing in second place are Buccs 1 (from left) Grant Gets, Kyle Baxter, Devon Alexander and Keagan Ray. Absent was Neil Osbourn.

Singles champion was Graham Fabricius, probably better known for his fishing and golf prowess, with runner-up Kyle Baxter.

Sam du Toit and Riaan Fourie emerged as the best female and male players for the season.

Top individuals for the year were Riaan Fourie (men) and Sam du Toit (women).
