Sharks support launch of developmental rugby
The programme will include training of players, coaches and administration staff for the various clubs.
The atmosphere was one of excitement at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre last Friday, as South Coast rugby enthusiasts welcomed Cell C Sharks players and leadership, to launch the Southern KZN Rugby Transformation Programme.
The programme is to develop rugby on the South Coast, while also creating opportunities for the youth who are interested in playing, coaching and administration.
Doug Haralambous, Southern KZN Rugby Union president, said the initiative is very important and special as the Cell C Sharks have taken time out of their schedule, to take developmental rugby seriously.
He said he hopes that the new relations formed with the Sharks for this programme will continue, and will be beneficial to the youth of the South Coast.
The Sharks will work closely with Ugu KZN Rugby Union and Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre, to ensure that the programme is a success.
Local primary schools – Ensimbini, Port Edward, Izotsha and Port Edward were part of the day’s programmes, while Olwandle, Galeni, Port Shepstone and Gamalakhe Commercial high schools got a chance to train professionally with the Sharks.
The learners were so excited as Springbok and Sharks players, Curwin Bosch, Muller du Plessis and Jaden Hendrikse signed balls and T-shirts for their super fans.
