Double surf fun at Tweni2s

Organiser Derek Horlock thanked the businesses for their dedication in supporting the event, which assists Ugu surfers and Umtentweni community projects.

Community involvement, wonderful camaraderie and some great surfing was what the fifth edition of the Tweni2’s Pairs Surfing competition was all about.

South Coasters came out in force to support the event, Tweni’s very own version of Glastonbury, enjoying the surfing, beach vibe and, of course, the music festival.

Winners were ‘Detroit & DVZ747’ – Chad du Toit and Davie van Zyl of Durban, clinching the victory cheque of R30 000.

They took the TecBoard top honours, snatching victory from last year’s winners, Brandon Jackson and Josh Redman (‘Squid Beaks’), also of Durban.

The runners-up nevertheless secured the Legit International Trade runners-up prize, worth R10 000.
On a more local note, it was so close for ‘Shock Wave’, namely Justin Maisch and Gary van Wierengen, who failed to advance to the final by a miserable half point.

There was some consolation for them, being awarded the cheque for ‘Waves Best Local Team’.
Chad then switched caps, from surfer to deejay, leading the party revellers into the early hours of Sunday morning, after a hard, but successful day of surfing.

There was an extremely proud moment for the South Coast when up-and-coming youngster, Jordan Boshoff, received the R5 000 cheque for ‘Top Dog Top Wave of the Day’ prize in honour of Tweni surfing legend, Darryl Osbourne.

The early bird ticket sales Thula Moya Inverter was awarded to Andrew Thompson, with Noel Coetzee receiving the Umtentweni Caltex fuel voucher.

He also thanked all the surfers, as well as the expert judging panel which included the services of world-renowned surfers Ant Brodowicz and Royden Bryson.
