For the ‘Love’ of fishing
Overall, there was a fantastic spirit throughout the weekend, despite the cold, wet weather.
There was a pleasant surprise for members of the South Coast Freshwater Angling Club when they visited Lake Eland recently.
They bumped into members of Margate club, who were having their own competition there, and so enjoyed seeing some old faces again and having a chat about the fishing for the weekend.

Margate started their comp on Friday evening and finished at lunchtime on Sunday, with the SCFAC comp starting early on Saturday and also finishing at noon on Sunday.
Some of the ‘big guns’ could not fish last weekend. However, Saturday kicked off well, with good weather and good catches.

But rain came in the afternoon, and plenty of it. On Sunday morning, there was more rain.
All was not lost, though, as some of the rookies on board were able to use the time to gain fishing wisdom through the shared advice of the seasoned pros.
At the end of it all, Charlie Ward was the top men’s angler with a tilapia of 540g and scalie of 500g. Ryno Basson was second.

Mel Love was the ladies’ winner, catching the biggest carp (3,98kg). Ena Ward was the runner-up.

“It makes me feel that fishing came first and winning second,” said chairman Charlie.
