Chad eases to another Midmar 8 Mile
This year he challenged race organiser Wayne Riddin to the 8-Mile.
Swimming coach Chad Gifford has completed his sixth 8 Mile at the aQuellé Midmar Mile.
He’s no stranger to these waters. In fact, he’s something of a celeb but tries to shut that notion down as fast as possible.
While there, he rubbed shoulders with the likes of Chad le Clos (Olympic champion), Terrence Parkin (well-known deaf swimmer) and Sharon van Rouwendaal (Olympic open water 10km champion).
His long-time friend and swimming buddy, Willie Badenhorst, travelled from Cape Town to join him. They travelled to the race from Durban.
As usual, Chad has something to give to the race in his usual inimitable, cheeky style.
This year, he challenged race organiser Wayne Riddin to the 8-Mile.
That drew Wayne into the race and attracted exposure for charity, including the Cancer Association of South Africa.
There was plenty of friendly banter, of course. How else do you know Chad?
Wayne thanked Chad for giving him the inspiration to do the 8 Mile despite the organisational challenges that go with the big event.
Chad thoroughly enjoyed the experience. “Shoulders were a bit stiff, that’s to be expected, but otherwise all good,” he said. “Back to work now.”
