Birthday alliance proves fun for golfers

The men's betterball was won by Gary Purtell and Nicky Smith on 43 points.

The ladies played the Jeanne Powell’s Birthday Alliance at Southbroom Golf Club last Wednesday, which was won by Gwyn Wright, Solange Fox, Heather Anderson and Augi D’Ewes on 79 points.

In second place were Irene Schanda, Maeve Mullane, Jenny Holford and Pauline Adcock on 75 points.

They counted out Precious Mkhungo, Louise Leal, Di Morris and the birthday girl, as well as Jean Cole, Jolane Pieterse, Val Volck and Sandy FitzGerald.

The men’s betterball was won by Gary Purtell and Nicky Smith on 43 points.

Runners-up on 42 points were Jurgen Feeder and Emil Hierhold, counting out Bob O’Callaghan & Chris Ledden.

Fourth spot went to Anton and Cobus Muller on 41 points, who counted out Martin Hutton and Jack Moulder.

The Saturday alliance was won by Michelle van der Hoek, Precious Mkhungo and Michelle Adcock on 77 points.

The men’s alliance was won by Marius Santos, Chris Solgevik, Brian Blackstock and Neill Crossey on 91 points.

In second place on 90 points were Gary Purtell, Gavin Sole, Howard Kelly and Walter Robinson.

Third spot went to Anton Kohrmann, James Carlsen, Johan Wentzel and Brian Jolliffe on 85 points.

Chicken Run: Sandy Wilmot 23 points, Walter Robinson 20 points, Wilhelm Steynberg 20 points.
