The eight kickboxers representing KZN at the recent SA Kickboxing Champs in Newcastle fought with great courage and returned with a number of medals.
The athletes fought their hearts out against tough opposition to secure eight medals – three gold, three silver and two bronze.
One gold is being queried so that could change.
Nicole Alves won her second national champs and Bianca Arthur her first SA champs in ring to add to her win at last year’s Africa champs.
Justin Alves won his first SA title in an incredibly brave performance.
Keshav Singh was denied gold by what seems to have been a computer glitch and the medal is being queried.
Kai Low fought the number two fighter in the world in the gold medal match in his weight group and narrowly lost in a wonderful performance in his first ring fight.
The other three tatami fighters, namely Santana Bester, Jess Holloway and Cruz Kruger, performed admirably in their first SA champs, with Jess and Santana medalling.
Cruz, at nine years old, was in one of the biggest groups in the competition and although he missed out on a medal, he showed enough talent and heart to be a definite one to watch for the future.
