Tweni champs draw to a close
Spectators are encouraged to come down to the club to watch.
It’s finals time for the Umtentweni Tennis Club championships, with matches to be played this Friday and Saturday.
Darral Pillay will contest all three, as will Cheryse Wikstrom.
There has been a wonderful turnout for this year’s champs and it has gone well, notwithstanding the occasional hiccup that is part and parcel of such an event.
Credit is due to convener Liesl Smith, who has kept a close eye on proceedings, all the while nursing an ankle injury which has kept her from playing.
RESULTS
Men’s singles:
Darral Pillay beat Bjorn Wikstrom 6-3, 6-4. He will play Hriday Kambaran in the final this Saturday at 13:00.
Men’s singles plate:
Trevor Pillay was awarded the win after Raj Naganna had to withdraw due to injury.
Ladies singles:
Robyn Olivant will play Cheryse Wikstrom in the final this Saturday at 13:00.
Men’s doubles:
Ian Ackerman/Johan van Niekerk beat Dan Dimitriu/Rob van der Schyff 6-2, 6-2. They will play Darral Pillay/Trevor Pillay in the final this Saturday after the singles.
Men’s doubles plate:
Raj Naganna/Herman Ehlers beat Chris Polinksi/Neil Thomas in the final, 6-4, 6-1.
Ladies doubles:
Round robin matches are on the go, with Cheryse Wikstrom/Sharon van der Schyff top the table currently, with Chantelle Donald/Natasha Cotterell close.
Mixed doubles:
Darral Pillay/Sharon van der Schyff beat Justin Hinchliff/Chantelle Donald 6-2, 6-4.
They will play Bjorn Wikstrom/Cheryse Wikstrom, who went through on a walkover after Johan van Niekerk/Dee Algie had to withdraw due to injury.
This match will take place this Friday at 15:30.
Raj Naganna/Liesl Smith also had to withdraw due to injury.
Mixed doubles plate:
Trevor Pillay/Robyn Olivant beat Foxy Norton/Carol Nash 6-1, 6-0.
They will play André Hofman/Natasha Cotterell in the final this Friday at 15:30.
