Silver medal for Southern KZN action cricketers

The players enjoyed the tight games and renewing old friendships.

Southern KZN action cricketers more than held their own, despite some chilly weather, at the recent Action Cricket Over 30s nationals held in Sasolburg (Vaal Park) last week.

There were 13 teams overall in their group and five in their pool. They won four out of the five pool games to progress to the top six, where they won all three games on offer and qualified for the final.

In the last top six game they needed to beat Eastern Gauteng and did so in dramatic fashion, winning by one run, advancing to the gold final.

In the final, Skzn came up against Easterns (again) and this time Easterns got the upper hand, in another thrilling, tightly contested game.

The team comprised Ashley Lombard (captain), Marc Shorkend, Stephan Joubert, Garreth Bishop, Jhean Ludick, George Nagel, Barry Carlsson, Alviro Nadasen, George Bronkhorst and David Pienaar.
Manager/player David Pienaar said he was proud of the team, bringing back a silver from nationals.

He thanked the various sponsors who had made the trip possible, in particular Super Auto Midas and Halfway Toyota Shelly Beach.

David said there was much to look forward to, with the local arena anticipating hosting an IPT at some stage.

Before that, there will be trials for various age groups for next year – and two junior squads will be announced soon.
