Port Shepstone Country Club golfers enjoyed a mini Ryder Cup of sorts (ahead of the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in New York this weekend) last Saturday, with the Internationals (led by Jesse Verster) defeating the USA (captained by Howard Crouch) by 312 points to 301.
Is this an ominous sign for Keegan Bradley’s men against the might of Luke Donald’s Europe? Time will tell. One thing is for sure, it will be rowdy.
Back at Sheppie, best pair on the day was Kim Strauss and Cecelia Verster on 42 points, counting out Gavin van Wyk and Bruce Holmes. One point behind were Carl Zietsman and Johan Williams.
The competition last Wednesday, played off the red tees, was won by Allan Rowley on 43 points. Ken Morris was second on 40 points and then Charles Hulley in third on 39 points, counting out Jenny Hulley.
Allan Rowley also won the Hibiscus Coast Electrical Fowl Friday on 19 points, with Basil King and Jesse Verster Jr both on 18 points.
Howard and Wynona Crouch won the Wozani Berg Gasoline Par 3 Challenge on 43,5 points last Sunday, followed by Byron Henning and Jack Borchers on 37 points. In third place were Preggie Perumal and Pravesh Govender on 36 points.
The women finished in third place in the Lewis Reynolds trophy tournament at Selborne Park last Sunday. Margate CC were the winners, followed by San Lameer. Port Shepstone’s team was Kim Strauss, Jenny Hulley, Cecelia Verster and Jennifer Duncan.
Junior golfer Ari Maharaj won the 8-10 year old division in the Margate Junior Cup last Sunday. He is a dedicated golfer and members are proud of his achievements.
Winners of the MakMoer business day on September 12 were Gavin van Wyk, Bruce Holmes, Connor Wheatcroft and Allan Rowley on 95 points. Runners-up were Lance Holson, Michelle Holson, Dawid Moller and Colin Nel (ghost) on 94 points, one ahead of Rajen Naidoo, Preggie Kandasamy, Jeevan Mahadev and Sanjay Singh on 93 points.
