Blind bowlers roar into Uvongo

Madeleine Gouws plays an integral part in the success of the weekend.

Port Shepstone Lions once again hosted their annual National Association of Blind Bowlers (KZN Region) tournament at Riverside Sports Club in Uvongo.
A number of blind bowlers travelled to the South Coast to take part against a team of bowlers from Riverside BC.

Port Shepstone Lions have been involved with this project since 1981.

This weekend tournament is a firm favourite with the visually impaired bowlers. Apart from the games, the weekend included transport, accommodation and meals.

Hibiscus Rotary Club provided the Saturday lunch and Port Shepstone Lions and Lion Ladies provided and served dinner on the Saturday evening.

Bowler David Mpungose receives guidance from Gail van Wyk.

Port Shepstone Lions’ secretary Denis Meyer thanked all for their involvement and organisation.

Club president Clayton Curnow presented the trophy to this year’s winners – the visiting blind bowlers (NABB KZN) team.

Port Shepstone Lions are, once again grateful to Madeleine Gouws who, on behalf of the club organised the event and arranged several sponsorships.

Her input toward this event is nothing short of outstanding.

The Lions thanked Riverside BC for their wonderful hospitality as well as the sponsors (main ones National Braiding Industries and First National Bank Commercial Port Shepstone) for their generous donations towards this successful project.

Lions Craig Curnow, Barry van der Veen, Clayton Curnow, Trevor Read, Kenny Rolfe, Johann van den Berg and Denis Meyer.
