South Coast athletes shine at championships

CKS Athletics Club is developing young athletes into future winners.

Several young athletes from CKS Athletics Club, coached by Tia Dreyer, took part in the Southern African Christian Schools’ Sport Association’s (SACSSA) Athletics Championship held at Mdunzi Stadium in Pietermaritzburg recently.

The event welcomed athletes from across Southern Africa, including KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, Free State, Western Province, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and more.

Highlights from the club’s results include: Amonè Roos (U12 girls) placed 5th in the 1200m. Xavier Fynn (U20 men) earned bronze in both the 800m and 1500m.

Richard Swanepoel (U20 men) impressed with first place in the Swedish relay, second in the 400m, seventh in the 200m and 10th in the 100m.

Ashlin Reynard dominated the 1500m and took first spot, and claimed second in the 800m. Mianke Klooster took fourth in the 400m and fifth in the 800m. Jacqoe Verheem, sadly, had to withdraw in the 100m due to injury .

A standout performance came from Ziacque Verheem who took fourth place in the 60m with a new personal best. In the 80m, he took third with a new personal best and a South African record, and sixth in the turbojav.

Ziacque was also selected for the KZNCSSA 2x gender relay team, helping them secure gold and set a new SACSSA record. He was honoured at the prize giving with the SACSSA National Athletics U7 to U9 Boys Victor Ludorum trophy.

Congratulations to all CKS athletes for their outstanding achievements and for representing their club with heart, grit and pride.
