Ace number three for golfer at Port Shepstone Country Club

It's the second perfect fluke in a week, following Rudi Steyn's recent effort on the 5th hole.

The 17th hole at Port Shepstone Country Club is one of the toughest par threes on the South Coast, but Smittie Stieger made it look easy last Saturday.

He won the competition with Piet Snyman on 44 points, counting out Kreeson Naicker and his daughter Kiara, but the highlight of the day was Smittie’s hole-in-one on the 17th.

This is now his third ace, with the other two coming on the 5th hole.

“I hit a 7-iron and the ball never left the flag. I saw sand splash on the green but did not see the ball go in the hole,” said Smittie.

He described how Piet found the ball in the hole but at first he (Smittie) thought it was Piet’s ball.

Smittie was delighted with his round of 74 and the hole-in-one was the cherry on top.

The previous Wednesday’s competition was won on 40 points by Gary Vogt, counting out Rudi Steyn.

Smittie Stieger was third on 39 points, with Mark Smith and Theo van Rooyen next on 37 points.

The Hibiscus Coast Electrical Fowl Friday saw Rob Vogt take top spot on 23 points, with Fanie Terblanche and Allan Rowley next on 20 points.
Roy Thomson had 19 points and Colin Nel 18 points.
