Fishing: Bronze bream on the bite

Grey sharks and king fish were caught off Margate Pier.

Bronze bream ‘bronzies’ are currently active along the South Coast, particularly in gullies with white water. Popular baits are pink prawn, red bait and mussels.

Summer fishing got off to a slow start and anglers are hoping the winter months will bring in some good catches.

Some anglers reported shad and brushers, but nothing too exciting. Grey sharks and king fish were caught off Margate Pier.

According to Stompie Koekemoer from KZN Fishing Guides, the weather looks a bit windy for the weekend ahead, with some rain, however, it won’t stop keen anglers. “Hopefully, the rock and surf guys can get some good catches.”

The Tuna Bonanza takes place at Shelly Beach Ski Boat Club on July 4 and 5.
