Southern KZN netball team creates some history

The future looks bright for the sport on the South Coast.

The Southern KZN U17 mixed netball team came away from nationals last week with a bronze medal.

For a young team – most of them are still either under 15 or 16 years old – this was a phenomenal performance. They stepped up to the higher age group and showed confidence beyond their years.

They showed passion and determination to bring home the region’s first ever netball medal.

Coach Chandré Bester and manager Corné du Plessis provided the hours of preparation and belief in this team, their hard work paying off.

To top things off, all eight players who trialed for the SA U17 mixed training squad were selected, an indication that the sport is well and truly alive in the area and boasts a promising future.

They were Emelin van Zyl, Chinique du Plessis, Damian Skinner, Dévan van Heerden, Cherise Gibson, Unathi Gigaba, Ricardo Bernardo and Lieben Valentine.

The other two teammates were Alexa Mendes-Da Silva and Alexis White.
