Karate helps develop youngsters in Pennington

The Ippon Dojo promotes character, effort, etiquette, sincerity, and self-control.

Karateka from the Ippon Dojo in Pennington recently participated in a grading event.

According to Sensei Stephen Kentridge, the purpose of the gradings are to enable the youngsters of today to own their platforms, and help them defend themselves in a world that is unsettling.

Gradings take place every three months

“Karate assists students with emotional, spiritual and physical development, aids with eye coordination and tertiary development,” he said.

Kentridge thanks Scottburgh Primary for supporting the Shotokan karate syllabus – a world recognised Olympic sport.

The dojo is also affiliated to the largest organisation – Shotokan Karate-do International South Africa (SKISA)/World Karate Federation (WKF), with 40 million practitioners globally.

SKISA is a premier non-racial karate organisation affiliated with Karate South Africa (KSA), the official national body recognised by the WKF.

The Ippon Dojo promotes character, effort, etiquette, sincerity, self-control and refrain from violent behaviour.

Karateka gather every Monday and Wednesday evening at Ippon Dojo at Relton Hall in Pennington from 18:00 to 19:00; and every Thursday at Scottburgh Primary from 14:00 to 15:00.
