Margate CC hosts glittering ‘Oscar’ evening
The event was a fund-raiser for Child Welfare.
THE cast of the show for the Margate Week bowls tournament decided to have a formal dinner-dance evening to remember the fun had by all and to award fun category ‘Oscars’ to a number of ‘performers’.
The evening was held at Margate Country Club to raise money in aid of Child Welfare once again. ‘Best Female Act’ was won by Barbara Iceton for her role in ‘The Prostitute Club’ and the ‘Best Male Act’ was won by Brian Smallberger for his skit ‘The Punch Drunk Boxer’. ‘Best Costume’ was won by Clive Edmundson for his Elvis impression and ‘The Most Improved Actor’ went to Bill Brown as Elton John.

‘Best Male Group’ category was won by ‘The Three Tenors’, namely Len Sprong, Peter Bausek and Ian Hutton. The ‘Best Female Category’ went to Lenie Geyer, Ann Waugh, Esta Wenzel, Trixie Smith, Ellen Cawker and Annette Payne for their rendition of ‘I Love Rock and Roll’. Yvonne Bausek, who produced the show, won the ‘Best Producer’ Oscar and the raffle prize for two nights’ accommodation at the Sibaya Sun was won by Marie Webster.
Thanks to the Margate Country Club staff for putting on a magnificent meal and to entertainer Graham Boyle for his jokes and great 70’s music. Special thanks goes to Mary Morley for the decor, as well as to Johnny Louch for the idea and for heading up the ‘organising’ committee.
