No licence, but bistro doors stay open

'Chewing the Hornet' will give a barnyard style performance this Sunday.

ALTHOUGH the Rock Bottom Music Bistro in Umzumbe has lost its licence due to a set of unfortunate circumstances, it is business almost as usual this Sunday when the band, ‘Chewing the Hornet’ will entertain guests.

Because of the loss of licence there will be no bar facilities, although non-alcoholic drinks will be on sale. Instead, the musical afternoon will have a barnyard theatre format with guests bringing their braai or picnic hampers and their own alcohol. Braai facilities and some basic light meals like hamburgers will be available. Braai fires will be lit around noon and the performance kicks off at at 2pm.

‘Chewing the Hornet’ is a four-piece band made up of Sean Mc Farlane (guitar), Derek Springer (bass and vocals), Daniel Schulz (drums) and Alan Hall (vocal and harmonica).

The band’s focus is rock, ranging from ’70s rock such as Led Zeppelin and Jimmy Hendrix to the ’90s grunge like Nirvana and Lenny Kravitz and modern day numbers from the likes of Cold Play and Kings of Leon.

The door charge will be R60 per person, with R40 going to the venue to help keep the doors open while a new licence is negotiated.
