Dark side of power cuts

We need our local authorities to implement interventions.

SEWERAGE flowing into rivers, major traffic jams and water pumps grinding to a halt.

This is but a small taste of what lies ahead as Eskom’s rolling load-shedding plans to ease the strain on the national grid kicked in this week.

It is a bleak picture and the South Coast needs to implement a strategy to cope with the power cuts or there could be dire economic consequences for the area.

Businesses might need to change their trading hours to fit in with the power outages and implement flexible hours for their staff.

And if water reservoir pumps and waste treatment facilities stop working, the coast could face serious health issues.

Gridlock at intersections when the traffic lights are not operational could lead to delays in emergency services responses.

We need our local authorities to implement interventions.
