Sinusitis what is it, and 7 ways to treat it

Sufferers will know just how uncomfortable the condition can be.

The Doctors Book of Home Remedies says, “During the day your head is so pumped with pressure that you feel like a hot-air balloon while when you try to go to sleep,  it’s as if you’ve sprung a slow leak.” As any one who suffers from sinus will attest, that’s a great description!

The article goes on to say sinusitis is a condition in which the sinus cavities around the yes and nose become infected, producing pressure, pain, and often yellow or green mucus.

The book says  doctors advise the following to alleviate the problem:

  • Lean over a pan full of steaming hot water with a towel draped over your head and inhale deeply.
  • If congestion strikes at work, make a mug of hot tea or coffee, cup your hands over the top and inhale the steam.
  • Drinking extra liquids thins mucus and keeps it flowing.
  • Blow one nostril at a time, which will help prevent pressure build-up in your ears.
  • Exercise may help as it releases adrenaline which constructs blood vessels and may help reduce swelling in the sinuses.
  • Applying a warm washcloth to your  eyes and cheekbones may assist with pain relief.
  • Eating spicy foods containing garlic, horseradish and cayenne pepper can help open up your sinuses.
