Umzinto beauty, Tamara Moodley, chosen for Glow TV pageant finals

She was recently chosen as a finalist in the Glow TV Miss UniWorld South Africa 2019 pageant and seeks sponsorship in order to progress.

Tamra Moodley of Umzinto is doing the mid-South Coast community proud. She was recently chosen as a finalist in the Glow TV Miss UniWorld South Africa 2019 pageant.

The Miss UniWorld pageant attracts women from across the world, giving them a platform to promote women empowerment, be ambassadors for community causes and affords them an opportunity to be recognized for their worth. The contest is open to young, unmarried women between the ages of 18 and 28, of all race groups who reside in South Africa.

Miss Moodley who is currently completing her matric at Umzinto Secondary School first heard of the pageant while watching Glow TV.
“I decided to try my luck and went for auditions a few weeks ago. I was interviewed and before I left the venue, I was told that my audition was successful,” she explained.

Her fine character and bubbly personality ensured her a spot in this pageant.

“I’ve done and still do a lot of charity work and am in full support of women empowerment so this pageant allows me to grow on these concepts,” she said.

“I’m in my school’s interact club and I’ve done church outreach programmes so this just extends my platform to do more for my community.”

This young contestant is also an entrepreneur as she has just started her own nail salon and is doing fairly well for someone who has to balance their matric year, extra-curricular activities and a mini business. She is passionate about beauty – more specifically nails and make-up which she invests a lot of time in. Besides being a very sociable and outgoing person, Miss Moodley also values her alone time.

The budding beauty enthusiast also has a feisty and fierce side which comes to the fore when she practices her karate. She is currently on her orange belt.

When asked whether or not she had a role model whom may have influenced her, Miss Moodley said there wasn’t anyone in particular, but that she would like to make a difference in her community that resulted in her becoming someone else’s role model one day.

“There is a lot of negativity surrounding us, and such a lack of opportunity in our area. I’ve started doing as much as I can charity wise, and this pageant will help me grow. Even my nail salon will eventually grow. We have to start off small to make it big.”

For the pageant and before the finals take place, she requires the assistance of the community in order to progress. Sponsorship is needed for the pageant sash and brochure page which is in the region of R10 000. Miss Moodley is seeking assistance from businesses in the area to help her raise this amount. The Miss UniWorld pageant will be aired on Glow TV in July so there will be ample recognition for sponsors.

This aspiring beauty queen said it was thanks to the support of her mother Sharon Moodley that she had made it this far in the contest.
