Join Scottburgh’s big beach clean-up
It is hoped that this initiative will be expanded to become a monthly one.
EVERYBODY is urged to support the Proudly Scottburgh Forum which, in conjunction with Scottburgh High, is holding a clean up of the Scottburgh main beach this Friday, August 23.
Work will begin at 3pm, starting from the Scottburgh Lifesaver's clubhouse.
The clean up will last for one hour and everyone taking part will be provided with a black plastic bag and a pair of disposable rubber gloves, sponsored by R&M Construction.
“We will be focusing on three areas – back beach through to the Scottburgh Caravan Park, main beach and the northern part of the beach leading up to Little Black Rock,” said Proudly Scottburgh Forum's Owen Kuyper.
It is hoped that this initiative will be expanded to become a monthly one.
“The idea is to encourage the community to take care of their beach and to help raise environmental awareness,” said Mr Kuyper.
R&M Construction will dispose of the rubbish collected.
As part of the project, the company will also assist in removing the sugar cane which washed down the Mpambinyoni River during the last heavy rains.
This will be moved onto the sand dunes in an effort to aid in rehabilitating these dunes.
Experienced environmentalist, Barry James, will be on hand to ensure that correct procedures are followed.
