Pensioner wounded in Tweni robbery

The attackers demanded cash and firearms.

A pensioner was injured when he was attacked in his Clifton Road, Umtentweni home by two men on Tuesday this week.

“The 72-year-old man sustained an open wound to the face when he was attacked by the men who demanded cash and firearms,” said police spokesman, Captain Petros Mpinge.

“The man was in the garage when the men entered the property. They restrained him with nylon cable ties and tried to enter the house.

“The man's wife however was quick to lock the security gate,”

The attackers fled across a neighbour's property into the sugarcane fields with a set of vehicle keys and a cellphone.

Police and the Port Shepstone K9 unit searched the area but were unable to locate the suspects.

Investigations continue.
