Umbogintwini plant celebrates major safety milestone

AECI Mining Chemicals Umbogintwini has achieved an exceptional safety milestone — three years, or the equivalent of 650,000 working hours, without a Lost Time Injury (LTI).
The accomplishment, officially celebrated on 22 August 2025, is a source of pride for both the business and the local community. It highlights the team’s steadfast commitment to safety, care, and teamwork, ensuring that every employee returns home safely at the end of the day.
“This milestone is a true testament to the culture of safety that our Umbogintwini team lives out daily,” said Christo Peltz, Company Risk and Safety Manager. “Their dedication, discipline, and care for one another have set an example for all of us at AECI Mining Chemicals.”
Employees across the site came together to mark the occasion, recognising not only the achievement itself but also the behaviours and values that made it possible. With safety embedded at the core of operations, milestones such as this reinforce the importance of vigilance, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
AECI Mining Chemicals congratulates the entire Umbogintwini team on this outstanding achievement. Their success stands as an inspiration to colleagues across the business as AECI continues to strive toward even greater levels of safety performance in the future.

Environmental passion in action
FOR over 30 years, the Umbogavango Environmental Education Programme has been a cornerstone of environmental learning, made possible through the steadfast support of AECI in partnership with the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (WESSA).
Hosted at the Umbogavango Nature Reserve and Education Centre within the AECI Umbogintwini Industrial Complex, the programme nurtures a love for nature among learners from under-resourced rural primary schools.
The programme’s mission is to ignite environmental passion through engaging indoor and outdoor activities, including nature excursions focused on biodiversity, ecology, and conservation – all aligned with environmental sustainability and climate change awareness.
Since its inception, more than 25 000 learners have participated, many of whom have gone on to pursue careers in conservation – a testament to the programme’s lasting impact. Despite Covid-19 disruptions, AECI’s continued commitment enabled the programme to successfully resume in June 2022. This year alone, 1 957 learners from 12 schools have already benefitted.
Looking ahead, the Umbogavango Environmental Education Programme remains dedicated to empowering future generations with the knowledge, curiosity and passion needed to care for the natural world that humans are an integral part of.

1957 Number of learners who have benefitted from programme since the start of 2025.
