Gymnasts flex their medal muscle

FUSION Rhythmic gymnasts competed at the KZN regional competition in Glenwood on Saturday, 24 August and walked away with a number of medals.

In the level 1 U7 age group Hannah Dafel and Keira Hall earned bronze medals and Megan O’Connor scooped first place overall.

Amie Currie and Tanya Nieuwoudt won bronze medals in the level 1 U9 age group while Biance van Oudtshoorn picked up the top spot with a gold medal.

In the level 1 U11 age group Danielle Rossouw and Lisa Pistorius tied first overall. In the level two U9 category, Lanesca Esterhuizen scooped silver and in the level 2 over 11 category, a silver medal went to Kira Rampersadh.

In level 3 U10 age group Simoné van de Pypekamp and Jessica Hollinshead both received bronze medals. In the level 3 U11category Erica Hair earned a bronze medal and Cindy Erasmus placed first overall. In the level 3 over 11, Robyn Hill took the second overall prize.

The following girls earned KZN colours at the competition: Kelly Shacklady, third overall level 5 U11; Kelly Lightfoot Level 5 U13; Saskia Dhipnarain Level 5 U15; Zas Mkhize second overall level 6 U15; Irushka Dhipnarain second place in level 6 over 15 category and Samara Lutchman first in level 7 over 15 age group. They will represent KZN at the national competition in Durban from 20 to 24 September. Coach Jess Botha will accompany them as provincial coach.
