Highland Gathering gathers steam ahead of 50th

Amanzimtoti Lions Club is preparing for the Highland Gathering, the biggest event of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere.

AMANZIMTOTI Lions Club’s Highland Gathering and expo is gearing up towards the big event on Saturday, 3 May, which will see the Lions host the gathering for a record 50th time.

The public is in for a treat as there is an exciting line-up of arena events. There is a Mini Miss Gathering for one to six-year-olds and Miss Junior Highland Gathering for seven to 12-year-olds. The men also have a chance to shine in the Mr Highland Gathering pageant, the only condition being that they are over 18-years-old.

Other arena events are displays by mini drum majorettes, Port Natal drum majorettes and the fire department. For vehicle enthusiasts, there is a classic car display. A number of bands will keep the crowds entertained and a children’s amusement park will keep the youngsters busy. After browsing the various stalls, take time out in either the tea garden or beer tent.

The expo willl focus on three industries, house and garden, outdoor and leisure and health and beauty. The house and garden category will comprise products such as kitchens and cupboards, security and fencing, landscaping, green products and decor and furniture.

Outdoor and leisure will feature products such as boats, caravans, jetskis, vehicles, motorbikes and travel services, while health and beauty will feature services such as jewellery, skin and beauty care and health services.
