Open day a success for SPCA

The community came out in force to support animal welfare organisation's open day.

AMANZIMTOTI SPCA held a successful open day at its Nyathi Road premises in Athlone Park on Saturday, 12 April.

“We showed visitors around the premises, including the boarding facilities, told them about our end of the month clinics and kennel sponsorships. We also showed families our ‘memory wall’ as well as the range of dogs, puppies and cats and kittens we have available for adoption,” said SPCA PRO, Michelle Hannah.

Visitors were also told how they can help by volunteering at the shop, walking adoption dogs, donating food, giving away their unwanted resaleable goods and sharing the animal welfare organisation’s events and animals up for adoption on its Facebook page with their family and friends.

“On the day we had a jumping castle, Easter egg hunt and facepainting by Penelope Purples’ Bronwyn Kirkpatrick for the children. Café Pronto provided a mobile coffee van. We had cakes and hot cross buns donated by Cleo’s Cakes, Flour of Scotland. Chateau Gateaux donated a cake and Brett Koning a camping chair, both were raffled. Plants were donated by Illovo Nursery.”

Regular volunteers cooked up a storm by making bacon and egg rolls, hotdogs for the children and vegetable breyani was donated by Angel Rose. Local DJ Shaun Callaghan played some tunes and for a silver coin played requests, including ‘who let the dogs out’. Volunteers and staff manned the thrift and book shops. Thanks also to Claudia Pereira from Animal Talk for copies of Pony, Animal Talk and HQ magazines, which were handed out free of charge.
