Creche gets sweet treat on Mandela Day

But needs help with donation of food and other items.

PUPILS of Sizanani Creche in Bhekulwandle received a sweet treat on Tuesday, 22 July in celebration of Mandela Day, which was commemorated on Friday, 18 July.

Kingsburgh Child Welfare secured sponsorship of a cake and bananas from Victory Kwikspar and one of its suppliers, Vista Veg.

Some 54 children from the surrounding community attend the creche, which is run by Beauty Maphumulo.

“I started the creche 24 years ago, after I saw children running around close to Old Main Road, endangering their lives.” She initially charged R15 a month per child and the fees have not increased by much over the years and now stand at only R100 per child.

Not all the children’s parents are able to afford the school fees. The children receive breakfast and lunch three days a week. “I don’t have the funds to provide meals for the whole week.”

Sizanani’s pupils range in age newborn to five years-old. If anyone is able to assist with donations, the following items are need urgently: Blankets, mattresses, rice, mealie-meal, sugar, oil, soup, beans and vegetables. Contact Beauty on 078-702-6622.
