Sisanda’s artwork attains acclaim in Lions contest

First place for Sisanda Cele at district level of Lions Peace Poster competition.

ASPIRING artist, Sisanda Cele of Athlone Park Primary School placed fourth in the multiple district round of the Lions Peace Poster competition.

The top four artists in the national round were announced in Cape Town last weekend. For her efforts, Sisanda won R1,000.

However, prior to reaching the national round of the competition, the grade 6 pupil placed second at the local judging stage.

The top three posters, including Sisanda’s, were forwarded to district level, comprising KZN and the Free State, where she was awarded first place. She won R1,000 for herself and her school.

“It’s overwhelming, I am really excited. I didn’t think I would make it this far in the contest,” she said.

Sisanda gets her inspiration from her sister, Nonjabulo, also a keen artist. “My emotions and things around me also inspire me to put them down on paper.” Having done well in the Peace Poster competition has given her motivation to do more in art.
