Police effect 171 arrests in December

Twenty-one people were arrested in connection with rape.

IN December, Toti SAPS secured 171 arrests.

Three people were arrested for murder, seven for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm; one for common assault; 21 for rape and two for armed robbery.
There were four arrests in robbery cases where weapons were used; separate arrests were made for pointing a firearm and discharging a firearm.

Fourteen people were caught for residential housebreaking; one for hijacking and a warrant of arrest was effected in a house robbery case.
Thirty-nine were nabbed for shoplifting; one for theft of motor vehicle and 12 for general theft.
One person was arrested in connection with fraud and another in possession of property presumed to be stolen.

In drug-related crimes, five people were caught in possession of dagga and 12 in possession of whoonga.
One person was arrested for using a vehicle without the owner’s consent; two for drunk driving and 15 for traffic-related offences.

Twenty-four people were arrested for breach of peace and one for failing to comply with conditions of their liquor licence.
In the same period, police recovered seven stolen vehicles; a pistol; a polisher with accessories; a lawnmower with accessories and three cellphones.
