Winklespruit Bowling Club News
The Kwikspar men's trips were played on Thursday, 9 April.
ALL the regular Winklespruit Bowling Club monthly competitions including the annual Port Natal men’s league and Port Natal mixed pairs were played over the last two weeks.
On Thursday, 2 April, the monthly Kwikspar women’s trips were played.
First session winners were Pamela Chalder-Royle, Jeanette Els and Sue Welch. Second session winners were Hazel Willis, Annatjie Boag and Ruth De Canha. Di Kruger, Yvonne Hooper and Lys Mac Donald won the overall prize. Cathy Harding won the 100 board and the mystery prize was won by Stella Erasmus. Sandy Snyman won the weekly attendance draw on Friday, 3 April.
The monthly Scroungers were once again a great success with some high scores being obtained. The Champion of Champions was Brian Farmer with 24 points. Plate A winners were Mike Kruger with 28 points and Cathy du Plooy won the plate B trophy with 24 points.
The monthly Winklespruit Caltex Garage women’s trips were played on Wednesday, 8 April. First session winners were Gladys Yelland, Lulu Bingham and Trish Farmer. Second session winners were Noreen Butler, Denise Bingham and Charlotte Kohl. Hazel Willis, Elmarie Young and Maggie Cormack won the overall prize. It was Heather Brown’s lucky day. She won the 100 board draw and the mystery prize. Noreen Butler was the spider winner.
The Kwikspar men’s trips were played on Thursday, 9 April. Steve Evenwel, Barry Hilton and Jonty Denysen won the second session. The overall prize was won by the Toti team of Ian Crouch, Duncan Wright and Peter Labuschagne. The 100 board draw was won by Brian Bodley. On Friday, 10 April the weekly social bowls were again well supported. The attendance draw was won by Di Kruger and the meat draw by Gert Nell.
The second round of the Port Natal inter-club league was played on Saturday, 11 April at Sherwood Bowling Club. Both Winklespruit teams won their games with a similar score of 22–17. Congratulations to Mike Kruger and Andre Gelderblom and their team members.
On Sunday, 12 April the monthly Steve Evenwel mixed 2-4-2 were played. Freddy Hetterscheidt and Sandy Snyman won first session and second session winners were Jonty Denysen and Sue Welch. Mike and Di Kruger won the overall prize for the day. Lulu Mazubane won the 100 board and Sandy Snyman won the spider.
Diarise the following events: Friday, 17 April social bowls at 2.30pm; Saturday, 18 April Clearwater Spur mixed 2-4-2. Port Natal men’s league at Winklespruit Bowling Club against Chiltern Park A and women’s league. Check the notice board for teams. No social bowls will be played on Saturday, 18 April; Thursday, 23 is men’s nominated 2-4-2 at 9am.
Best wishes to everyone who celebrated their birthdays during the week. To all those members who are ill, the club wishes you a speedy recovery. Condolences go to Gladys Yelland, Tom and Charlotte Wilson on the death of their brother-in-law. The club’s thoughts and prayers are with them.
