Ton of dog food keeps tails wagging

Amanzimtoti SPCA and 4 Paws and a Tale Rescue have benefited from the donation

THERE are a lot more wagging tails and happy purrs from the four-legged charges of 4 Paws and a Tale Rescue and Amanzimtoti SPCA, after 1.5 tons of dog and cat food were donated to both animal welfare organisations.

On Monday, 13 April Remax staff handed the much-needed food to the organisations at its Toti office. “We have a Toti Community Fund and each agent contributes a percentage of their commission. The money is used for various projects,” said Kathrine Salvemini of Remax.

Some R6,500 was collected via the fund. “We purchased the food from Pick n Pay Athlone Park, who gave us a massive discount. We also raised R740 from a Mondi Paper bank and bought 50 tins of dog food.”

In December, the agency’s community project was a toy and book collection. “In March, we focused on a dog food drive. The community supports us and this is our way of giving back.”

Amanzimtoti SPCA’s PRO, Michelle Hannan was ecstatic at the generous donation. “It is awesome. The food will help with our daily feeding, as we use about 80kg of food a day.”

Jacqueline Smith of 4 Paws and a Tale Rescue was also grateful for the food. “We feed 100 dogs, 35 cats and 16 puppies in foster care. We use 25kg of food in a day-and-a-half. We have 17 feeding stations.”
