Hijackers fire shots at motorist

He was not injured.

GUNSHOTS were fired at a motorist in an attempted hijacking in Whitfield Drive, St Winifreds on Monday evening, 20 April.

“The victim was driving a silver Toyota Hilux bakkie and had gone to his sister’s house to drop off items. Three men in a light blue VW Polo fired between three to four shots at the driver’s door of the bakkie. He was not injured,” said communications officer at Toti SAPS, Capt Charlene van der Spuy.

A neighbour heard the commotion while she was having supper with her children.

“I heard screaming, followed by a gunshot. There were more screams and two more gunshots. I pressed the panic button.”

In a second, unrelated incident, CCPO posted on its Facebook page that a Toyota Fortuner was hijacked in Stockdale Road, Winklespruit on Thursday evening, 16 April. The owners were dropped off in Umgababa and the vehicle was later found abandoned in Isipingo.
