Drug production equipment seized

Residue found is being analysed by a forensics team.

THE Hawks Organised Crime Unit confiscated drug-manufacturing equipment at a Ross Street, Toti flat on Wednesday, 10 June.

“A forensics team was also called in to analyse a residue found in the flat,” said Hawks spokesman, Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi.

The equipment confiscated yesterday is believed to be linked to the arrest in July 2013 and subsequent sentencing of Collins Orji Uwakeneme and his wife Veliswa who each received 15 years on Monday, 8 June for operating a drug-manufacturing lab in Illovo Beach.

“A docket will be opened and sent to the National Prosecuting Authority, which will make a decision.”

Mulaudzi could not confirm if any arrests had been made.
