Two big-hearted Pennington residents raised over R22,000 for Khanya Hospice at the East Coast Radio Big Walk.
“A big thank you to Lorraine Wilson, who is a Hospice shop volunteer, and her friend Mary McKenzie who raised more than double the amount this year than what she did last year,” said CEO, Neil McDonald.
This was the fourth consecutive year that Lorraine, who is also a grandmother, walked on behalf of Khanya Hospice and trebled up on the amount she raised from her first walk.
Lorraine said local businesses, friends and family and business partners in Johannesburg supported and sponsored her.
She was the 67st woman to cross the 20km finish line, 18th in her age group and 199th overall out of 1,949 women in a personal best time of 2.46.41.
“This year’s walk was much warmer than last year, so it was a bit hectic,” said Lorraine, who enjoys walking.
Mary finished 394 out of 1,034 woman, 27th in her category and 847th overall in 3.15.36. “Thanks to Mary for helping me fundraise. Your kindness is appreciated. I’ve always worked with Khanya Hospice and it deserves what it can get.
I plan to do the walk again next year,” said Lorraine. If you would like to sponsor her, contact Hospice on 039-973-1783 or the Pennington Hospice Shop on 039-975-3924.
“A huge thank you to all Upper South Coast residents who continue to support Hospice and our shops,” said Neil.
“Against all odds and because of their fantastic donations and support, the income generated in the shops help sustain the work our nurses and caregivers offer for free.
We are aware of the demands on people and express our appreciation for always thinking of us – helping us to help others.”
Anyone can donate to Hospice in cash or goods, such as clothes, bric n brac, cutlery, crockery, furniture or whatever you have to give away.
