More than fifty shades of purple for 21 Club
The next luncheon will be held at noon for 12.30pm on Wednesday, 22 July at Lords and Legends conference room.
EIGHTY-plus members and guests came out in every imaginable shade of purple for the June luncheon of the 21 Club.
The purple floral and feather table arrangements on gold added a regal touch.
Lords and Legends entered into the spirit of things and the delicious roast beef main course was followed by mauve cheesecake with a berry coulees.
Peter Butterworth, an annual treat and a huge favourite at 21 Club, was the guest speaker. He conveyed a very serious message to everyone concerning the absolute necessity of having a will. He gave examples of the folly of dying intestate and how the family of the deceased cannot benefit for many years and sometimes not at all.
He outlined the options and processes that need to be followed in the most professional way. Peter discouraged the tendency of some of some to indicate that a funeral is unwanted or unnecessary. He said that those left behind need some form of closure, religious or not.
The ‘Living Will’ was also discussed. This legal document lets people state their wishes for end of life medical care in case they become unable to communicate their decisions. It conveys to family members and doctors what a seriously ill person would prefer in terms of treatment.
While this all sounds very serious, Peter maintained a light note with prizes for those having various purple items to show. Don’t worry, Pat Andersson. What happens at 21 Club stays at 21 Club. Many thanks to Peter for yet another great contribution to 21 Club. Thank you too to Dot Smith who bought Maude Speedy, a great Butterworth family friend, as a surprise for Peter.
A fond farewell was said to Ann Skinner and her mom, Joy Pace who are relocating to Jeffreys Bay. A huge thanks to Ann for willing assistance to the committee whenever needed. Both will be sincerely missed.
The club offers condolences to Karen Santowski who recently lost her mother.
No fewer than 12 birthdays were celebrated, four of which were ‘big-0’s’. Patricia McCann (60), Janet Francois (70), Christine Jankowitz (70) and a sprightly Dawn Gould (80). Congratulations.
The next luncheon will be held at noon for 12.30pm on Wednesday, 22 July at Lords and Legends conference room.
