[PHOTOS] Blood donors flock in to save lives
Blood donors are the unsung heroes of this world
TOTI residents flocked in their numbers at the Amanzintoti Civic Centre to give blood on 8 January.
With the help of the South African National Blood Service (SANBS), many residents were able to safely donate blood that will help save thousands of lives.
One dedicated donor, Coenie Van den Bergh said that donating blood is a noble way to save lives. This donation marks his 140th time of giving blood and he claims that it is an awesome feeling. ” Blood donors are the unsung heroes of this world and I would encourage anyone who is able to give blood to come out and do it. Just think about the lives you will save. And to think that one pint saves three lives, it is worth it, ” said Van den Bergh.
For some it was a scary but exciting first time, like W/O Helen Lovegrove from the South African Navy, who found the experience to be liberating. “I am grateful that I was able to give blood and it was a very proud moment,” she said.
In order to give blood you have to be 16 years and older, you have to weigh over 50kg and practice safe sex.
