Errant motorcyclists beware

This could attract a fine of up to R5,000 and/or confiscation of the motorcycle.

Metro Police and law enforcement have received several complaints regarding motorcyclists utilising municipal public open space without regard for legislation or consideration for nearby residents.

Motorcyclists are specifically using the area along Civic Road close to the skateboard park and the Civic Centre gardens.

“We alert the public that the use of motorcycles is not permitted within these areas. In terms of the municipal bylaws this could attract a fine of up to R5,000 and/or confiscation of the motorcycle,” said ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge.

The Winklespruit Road Traffic Authority confirmed that they are alerted to unlicensed motorcycles being used on public roads. Fines ranging from R600 to arrest and/or confiscation of the motorcycle if not in a roadworthy condition could be applicable.
