Near drowning at beach swimming pool

An eight-year-old boy was swimming when he got into difficulty.

Swift reaction from a lifeguard saved a young boy from drowning at an Isipingo Beach public swimming pool on Thursday afternoon, 21 January.

“Paramedics responded to a drowning incident at a public pool in Isipingo Beach at about 4.40pm, said Netcare 911 media liaison, Chris Botha.

“Reports from the scene indicate that an eight-year-old boy was swimming when he got into difficulty and sank to the bottom of the pool.

A lifeguard immediately noticed and dived into the pool. After he pulled the child out of the water, he started cardio pulmonary resuscitation. Paramedics arrived and found that the quick action resulted in the lifeguard successfully resuscitating the child.

Medics found him to be in a stable condition with near drowning symptoms. The boy was stabilised at the scene before they transported him to a nearby hospital.”
