A man has been shot in an apparent hijacking outside Kingsway Hospital.

It is understood the man was sitting in his parked Hyundai i10, waiting for his  nurse girlfriend to complete her shift when he was approached by three men. They are understood to have wrestled with him when he resisted, and one produced a gun and fired a shot, which struck him in the leg. They fled in his vehicle.

Another hospital staffer witnessed the events unfold and immediately raised the alarm with paramedics at the Netcare 911 base located at the hospital. They responded within minutes and stabilised the man before taking him inside the hospital.
