Body spotted in Illovo River

Due to heavy rains the body could not be found.

Local fishermen got more than they bargained for when they spotted a dead man in the Illovo River where they were fishing last week.

They were fishing from the banks of the river when the body appeared.

They were afraid to retrieve it, so told community leaders who called the police.

Captain Nqobile Gwala of the SAPS KZN media centre confirmed that a decomposing body was found in the river.

“We can confirm that an inquest docket was opened at Amanzimtoti police station after an unknown man was found dead in the Illovo River on Wednesday, 3 August.

“The members received a complaint on Monday from the community about a body they saw in the river, but due to heavy rains the body could not be found,” he said.
