Murder suspect allegedly arrested abroad

Warrant Officer Rajan Govender, from the provincial organised crime unit who took over the investigation said police are still busy conducting investigations with Interpol.

International police believe that the man accused of murdering Shannon Lee Roberts has been arrested in Uruguay.  This comes after an international manhunt was conducted for the victim’s ex-boyfriend, Dylan Taljaard. Roberts’ body was found in bushes near Doonside Beach on 14 November 2014.

It was reported in the SUN that the 18-year-old had sustained three stab wounds and her body was discovered close to a few ‘bankies’ of dagga.  The case remained unresolved with no arrests or major developments for the past few years, however, police believe that they have arrested the suspect.

The case was moved from Amanzimtoti SAPS to the Isipingo Priority Crimes Unit. Detective Warrant Officer Rajan Govender, from the provincial organised crime unit who took over the investigation said police are still busy conducting investigations with Interpol.

“We are yet to determine if the man arrested is the suspect in the Shannon Lee Roberts case,” he said.

Initial reports stated that Dylan had been backpacking abroad since 2016.
