Voter registration uneventful

The low turnout has seen some attributing it to the option voters have of registering online.

The voter registration weekend on the South Coast was a rather quiet affair as most voting stations saw dribs and drabs of people coming to register or update their details.

All eligible voters had an opportunity to register or update their registration details from Saturday, September 18 to Sunday, September 19, between 8:00 and 17:00 at their voting station. Online registration was open until midnight on Monday, September 20.

It was mostly quiet at the Amanzimtoti Civic Centre under ward 97 with only a few people seen going in the voting station. It was the same at Athlone Park’s Methodist Church where the Independent Electoral Commision was stationed. The low turnout has seen some attributing it to the option voters have of registering online.
